School Surf and Snorkel

A unique surfing school and snorkelling experience at Manly Beach, Sydney, for primary & secondary schools.

The program includes a 2hr surfing lesson in the south corner at Manly, and 1hr snorkelling in the adjacent Cabbage tree bay aquatic reserve. The duration of the course is 3.5 hrs, allowing student’s time to prepare surf & snorkelling gear, and a food/water break. This program is available all year except November 8 – December 16. Group sizes up to 40, however we can cater for groups up to 80 by splitting the surfing and snorkelling rotations between two groups

SEA Australia is the exclusive license holder at Manly Beach (south end) to run school surfing programs. This stunning venue offers so many options, including the safe south corner of Manly beach & flat water areas in the Cabbage Tree Bay, which allows for the program to be improvised if the beach is subject to dangerous conditions.

Surfing program

On a foam surf board; Paddling, surfing skills such as sitting up, pivoting  and manoeuvring boards, negotiating the surf, using rips/current and sandbanks (dependent on surf conditions), catching a wave from standing position, standing up on surfboard, catching unbroken waves from out the back, cornering a wave, basic Manoeuvres

*Programs include 6ft foam surf boards, leg ropes, wetsuits or thermal vests where required, program identifying sun vests. Bigger boards are available for those who struggle on the smaller surf craft

​Snorkelling program

Paddle out from Shelly Beach into Cabbage Tree Bay on foam boards or with a noodle, to view the marine life and rock platforms with snorkel and masks. Also learn about the incredible and unique coastline surrounding Manly Beach, Cabbage Tree Bay, Shelly Beach and North Head.

The venue is spectacular - due to the variation in the coastal composition, the dynamic sea life in the marine reserve, unique rock platforms, and stunning beaches & cliff faces, providing a picturesque education platform amid the Manly surrounds.

School Surfing (stand alone program)

School Surfing lessons normally incorporate the use of rips to get out through the surf to enable fast and efficient stand up surfing development, enabling the participants to learn about surf education whilst having fun in the surf. This program is available all year except November 8 – December 16

For primary and secondary schools, using 6ft, 7ft and 8ft soft boards.

Venue: Dee Why – Sydney’s Northern beaches

 

The Dee Why venue is perfect for this program with good sandbanks and rips, providing a protected southern corner for beginners with a calm rip. Further north allows for more advanced groups. Dee Why is consistently the best venue for all school surfing programs.

Conditions dependent

Group sizes

Minimum 30 - we can have 40 in each group at one time. Anything above this will have to incorporate a buddy system or other surf skills like surf negotiation, body surfing
